What’s good for the goose…

Since Sarah Palin and John McCain enjoy linking Reverend Wright and his controversial statements to Barack Obama let’s take some time to analyze the statements of Palin’s former pastor, Ed Kalnins. Palin was baptized in this Assembly of God church at the age of 12, and while she has since moved her family to another congregation, she still maintains strong ties to her former church. Most recently, Palin made a speech at the Wasila Assembly of God during which she asked the congregation to “pray” for a 30 million dollar project involving a natural gasline. Palin stated and I quote, “I think God’s will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that…”. Nothing like a separation between church and state, huh folks? Palin’s economic prayers are but the tip of the iceberg. Analysis of pastor Kalnins’s statements regarding the events surrounding 9/11 are equally, if not more disturbing. Kalnins linked the terrorists attacks to a biblical prophecy of the “end times”, and a series of world wars surrounding Christianity. During this “world war” Kalnins saw Alaska as a Christian refuge, whereby all born again Christians could find safe shelter during the tribulations. While Reverend Jeremiah Wright may be a racist, Kalnins is bat sh*t nuts. I’m not trying to legitimize Wright and his past comments, but I am making the point that one cannot hold either candidate responsible for words that do not come out of their mouths. If we do, then I’ll take the racist over the lunatic anyday.
